Ali A Gator is a mosaic artist known for mixed media mosaic creations and collage art.
They have exhibited their work widely in London and throughout the UK, as well as internationally. In 2016 they took part in the International festival of Mosaics in Athens, Mykonos and London. Since 2024 they have started making collage art. There are many similarities mosaic and collage: they both include drawing a basic template, and then looking for materials with suitable colours and textures. These materials then have to be cut and shaped by hand and fixed onto a substrate. With mosaics this is usually wood or cement based, but with collage it is usually paper or cardboard.
Collage has the benefit of being an extremely ecologically friendly art from. The process of collage making includes tearing pictures out of old and unwanted second hand books many of which are found in charity stores. Many second hand books gets pulped if they have been damaged and are unsellable so using them for collage is an excellent way to recycle their pages.
